Bach was born in Warren, Ohio on March 1, 1954 to Norma Jean Kucera and Bernard Bachman as Catherine Bachman. Her father is a breeder and her mother an acupuncturist. Although her father is of German descent and her mother is of Mexican descent, Catherine is descended from one of the oldest landed families in California, the Verdugo family.

She grew up on a ranch in South Dakota with her grandparents. She attended Stevens High School, Rapid City, South Dakota. She graduated in 1970 and then went to UCLA where she earned an arts degree. As a student, Bach earned extra income by making clothes for theater groups and friends.

Career

Catherine began her acting career playing one of the children in a production of The Sound of Music. Her first screen appearance was in Burt Lancaster’s 1973 mystery film The Midnight Man as Natalie Claiburn. Her next role came the next year in the crime film Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, where she played Melody.

Bach first heard about the audition for The Dukes of Hazzard from her husband; Although not close to what the producers were looking for (a Dolly Parton look-alike), she was nevertheless hired and she delivered the character of Daisy Duke perfectly. James Best, John Schneider and Tom Wopat were on the show.
